Projects & approach · Leicester Cathedral
Light of Stars at Leicester Cathedral.
Confirmed for winter 2026/27, Light of Stars will provide the setting for a season at Leicester Cathedral. The Cathedral is planning worship, everyday visiting and an after-hours programme around the stars.
Winter 2026/27
One installation. A wider programme.
Leicester Cathedral is planning the installation alongside its programme, with everyday visiting and worship continuing to shape how the space will be used.
Light of Stars will provide a seasonal setting for the different teams and audiences using the Cathedral. The same visual environment can support ordinary visiting, worship and reflection as well as performances, talks, heritage activity and ticketed evening experiences.
What the programme explores
The installation can become the visual thread for a whole season.
Worship, events, learning, heritage and community activity can each retain their own purpose while taking place beneath the same installation.
Normal visiting and worship can sit alongside performances and after-hours activity rather than requiring a separate environment for each.
Thinking about what happens beneath the stars as well as where they hang helps a venue make fuller use of the installation across the season.
The planned activities will respond to the Cathedral’s character and its role as a place of worship.
Live programme
Different reasons to visit.
The Leicester programme is updated as events are announced and details change. Rather than duplicate a fixed event list here, the current programme is published through Events Under the Stars™ and Leicester Cathedral.
Events Under the Stars™
Planning the experiences around the stars.
Events Under the Stars™ is the programming and experiences that can take place around a Light of Stars installation.
Leicester’s forthcoming season shows how teams can plan those experiences together while retaining their own audiences and purpose.
Developing the installation
Designed around a working cathedral.
As with every Light of Stars project, the installation is developed around the building rather than imposed upon it. Sightlines, scale, access, fixing positions, services, rigging responsibilities, lighting, installation and removal are considered alongside the programme from the beginning.
Paper Starlights develops and supplies the creative installation. Specialist rigging, access and technical installation are planned and undertaken by competent technical professionals, with responsibilities agreed for this building.
Future projects
Could your venue build a season around Light of Stars?
You do not need a completed creative brief. Photographs, approximate dimensions, likely dates and a sense of how the venue is used are enough for an initial conversation.
