Cathedrals · churches · heritage · public buildings
Light installations for remarkable public spaces.
Light of Stars creates handcrafted illuminated installations for buildings with scale, architectural character and a public purpose. Each project is developed in response to the place, its programme and the people who use it.
Who it is for
Designed for spaces that already mean something.
A seasonal setting for worship, visitors, music and community activity while the normal life of the building continues.
Light and craft can reveal historic interiors, draw attention to architectural details and create new reasons to experience familiar spaces.
A distinctive visual setting can support exhibitions, evening openings, learning, performance and seasonal programming.
Light of Stars can provide a shared focal point for celebration, community participation, cultural events and public gathering.
What makes the approach different
The building remains the main character.
Scale, height, sightlines, stonework, stained glass, circulation and everyday use all influence the design.
The stars add a new layer of light and craft within the architecture, encouraging people to notice the building differently while its character remains clear.
That approach was demonstrated at Bath Abbey and is being developed further with Leicester Cathedral.
More than a visual installation
A setting a venue can use.
Give people a new reason to enter, return and look up while keeping the identity of the place central.
Use one distinctive setting for concerts, talks, dance, film, hospitality and other programmed activity.
Create opportunities for schools, community organisations, faith groups and local partners to take part in ways appropriate to the venue.
A long-running installation can give a venue a clear visual thread across normal opening and a wider programme.
Under the Same Sky of Stars
Made to bring people together.
Stars appear across faith, folklore, navigation, celebration and storytelling. That makes them a powerful symbol of common ground in spaces used by different communities for different reasons.
Commissioning
Start with the building.
Photographs, approximate dimensions, possible dates and a note about how the space is used are enough for a first conversation. From there, scale, composition, access, technical responsibilities and the opportunities around a wider programme can be developed with you.
Now taking bookings
Light of Stars bookings are open for 2028 and 2029.
If you are considering an installation for a cathedral, church, heritage venue, museum or public building, we would be pleased to look at the space with you.
